Hello! I’m Jacque

 

Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist  I have been in private practice for more than 30 years. During that time I have helped hundreds of individuals, couples and families look at themselves and improve their individual lives and their families.  Life should be enjoyed!

 

After owning a large multi-site counseling center in the Pasadena area for many years, my husband and I relocated to the Atascocita area where I now see clients in my home on a part time basis.  I am also licensed to see clients via Telehealth anywhere in the state of Texas.

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is about being you!  It is about exploring who you are and who you want to be.  Sometimes that means looking back at the things that molded you but it is important not to get stuck there.  If you have experienced trauma we need to resolve the trauma so you can enjoy life. We need to be mindful and honest with ourselves about our own choices and the consequences of others choices on our life and then create the life we want.   Life is to be lived in the present looking to the future.   I will help you look at a your emotional concerns and help you set growth driven life goals.  My approach to therapy is done with respect, creativity and the heart that you deserve.

 Couples Therapy is about who you are as a couple.  It has been said that a couple relationship is about a man and a woman and the space between them.  Learning to make that space between you special, safe, and fulfilling can be exciting and fun as you let go of preconceived ideas about what a relationship really should look like. I often have clients tell me that they don’t think they have ever seen a healthy marriage.  After 52 healthy years of marriage and 30 years of clinical experience I think I can safely say that I have a little experience in what makes a healthy marriage work.  I have a special interest in working with motivated couples that want to make their marriage better.

How to tell if you are depressed

Clinical Depression is more than simply feeling unhappy or fed up for a few days.

Most people go through periods of feeling down, but when you’re depressed you feel persistently sad for weeks or months, rather than just a few days.

Some people think depression is trivial and not a genuine health condition. They’re wrong – it is a real illness with real symptoms. Depression is not a sign of weakness or something you can “snap out of” by “pulling yourself together”. Symptoms of depression range from mild to severe.  At its mildest, you may simply feel persistently low in spirit, while severe depression can make you suicidal, thinking that life is no longer worth living.

The good news is that with the right treatment and support, most people with depression can begin to feel better quickly.  Techniques like CBT and mindfulness can help you stop negative self talk and negative thought patterns that rob you of the life you can enjoy living.

How to tell if you have anxiety 

 Anxiety is not an unusual problem.  It is also incredibly treatable. Often anxiety emerges when other feelings are not being addressed. It is hard to feel settled inside when we haven’t “listened” to our emotions and moved through them successfully. In this case it acts as a blanket that covers up the difficult, seemingly frightening, emotions under the surface. 

 Your anxiety will become less frightening In counseling as you gain a greater understanding how anxiety is created in the brain, and as a result, you will feel empowered and motivated to overcome it.  You will learn that the brain is a powerful tool, and the more you work to change the way you respond to fear, the more resilient you will become. Using practical self-assessments and proven-effective techniques, you will learn to literally “rewire” the brain processes that lie at the root of your fears.  Other techniques such as mindfulness and CBT  will help you approach emotion in a grounded, centered manner, thereby not only reducing symptoms, but also finding greater strength, passion, and joy.

About Being a Parent

I am a parent and it has been a special journey.  It as been a profound experience and one of my greatest opportunities to grow.   Out of love for my children and my desire to give them my best, I have been inspired to work on myself and to look at my issues and hidden suffering to avoid passing those pains on to my children and grandchildren.  Parenting brought up the  places within me that needed my attention and care and challenged me in ways nothing else could.  Parenting sent my husband and I searching for information anywhere we could find it.  In addition to looking at our personal issues that affected our parenting, we needed advice and insight into how to handle the complex and incredibly important situations that arose. with our children.  

I have the clinical and personal experience, and the desire to guide you through the sometimes overwhelming parenting moments and help you create the home life you want.

Are you in a blended family?

 Studies show 66% of second marriages involving children from previous marriages end. The stress all members of a new blended family go through may factor into this. Stress in a new family situation is normal. The transition may appear to have gone well. Even then, there is often some stress. The term “blended family” might imply a smooth transition. But the early years of a blended family are likely to be difficult.   

It can take time for both families to get used to living together. This can be due to many factors, including: different parenting and discipline styles, development of new relationships and strong or conflicting emotions  These challenges can occur even if everyone got along before living in the same space. The couple may have a hard time getting used to their new roles in the family. One or both adults will need to learn how to parent stepchildren. Issues with stepchildren can also bring tension into the relationship.

My Approach

 I am a professionally trained counselor, licensed by the state of Texas to provide therapy for individuals, couples, and families,  but I practice my profession from a distinctly Christian perspective. 

I strongly believe that there is no cookie-cutter approach to counseling.   That is why I have developed an approach that allows me to provide a personalized comprehensive treatment plan to address each individual and/or couple’s needs. With decades of experience, my goal is to meet the unique and specific needs of individuals, couples and families.  I have the training and experience to provide clinically appropriate counseling in the context of individual, couple, or family therapy.   Since I now choose to practice only 3 days a week, I also choose to work with highly motivated clients that are willing to invest their time, energy and finances to challenge themselves to grow personally, spiritually, and relationally.  You will find that I am caring  and respectful however direct and practical in my approach.  

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you in network for insurance plans?

No. I no longer participate in any insurance networks and I do not file insurance claims for my clients.

Can I file an out of network claim with my insurance?

Yes. I can provide a “super bill” which you can use to seek reimbursement from your insurance. Note that insurance plans only pay for ‘medically necessary’ treatment which means in order for your sessions to be covered you must have a mental health diagnosis. Counseling for issues such as marriage counseling are usually not covered by insurance.

How much does counseling cost?

I work on a sliding scale based on your income. The fees range from $90 to $140 per 50 minute session.

How long does it take ot get an appointment?

I can usually see new clients within one week. If I am on vacation or in other unusual circumstances, it may be up to 2 weeks. I will let you know of any limitations when you call to make an initial appointment.

Are evening or weekend appointments available?

I work Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8am until 6pm. I do not have weekend or evening appointments available.
